I will be participating in a mini-course called 7 Days to a Better EduBlog

I am a Technology Support Specialist in my school division. Yes, I have blogged before with limited success and sustainability. I am ready to try again!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I definitely like the idea of a blog to communicate ICT ideas to the SHSD staff and encourage sharing and reflection.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I have been reading blogs for several years (my RSS feeder is out of control!) and appreciate the confidence, knowledge, ability to reflect and the writing skills of EduBloggers like David Warlick, Will Richardson, Darren Kuropatwa or Dean Shareski .... just to name a few. I feel quite inferior, so my first hope will be to find my voice. I will focus my edublog on ICT integration ideas for K-12 classrooms.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I am planning to use a <b style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">wiki<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> to store content: how to use some Web 2.0 tools, advice on ICT integration and file sharing, and use a Diigo account to share URLs <b style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">to support my EduBlog<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: small;">I would like some ideas to make the appearance of my blog more attractive and useful for my teachers.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I think my previous attempts at blogging failed because I didn't receive many responses from readers. Let's give it another try!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I hope that this course will help me take the first step to maintaining and writing an effective EduBlog.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Your students might enjoy the Planet Green Game. As you travel around town you are faced with challenges to reduced energy use at your home and at school. Planet Green Game is a well-done interactive game that introduces students to concepts of reducing our energy consumption by making simple changes in our daily livesJanis Williamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05309231982410739546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8107793394190668432.post-22938426979387170802007-10-07T23:23:00.000-05:002007-10-07T23:40:37.168-05:00A Conference with Something for Everyone
The K12 Online Conference begins tomorrow. I am using Moodle and depending heavily on Bridgit and Skype. This allows the students to work at the computers in lab. My class includes students from two schools, 13 students. My course delivery is a work in progress that will be described on this blog.
We are starting a new topic in 2D involving animation and Powerpoint. We will be looking at many types of simple animation, so each topic is about 3 classes. There are four animation examples in this video from TILT.Janis Williamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05309231982410739546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8107793394190668432.post-11792129154599457912007-06-28T20:29:00.000-05:002007-06-28T20:32:13.722-05:00First Things First: Technology Successes in the Primary Grades
Learning Word –she teaches them the tools of Word that they need to use
Inserting Clip Art

Writers Workshop –highlighter – edit other students work, they can show that they have made changes

Spelling Word Art

Templates – could be used in centers – more guided – save as document template, they will then have to save and make their changes, put it on the desktop

Internet

What to include in your web quest
Introduction
Tasks
Resources
Process
Evaluation
Conclusion
Use links to appropriate sites, your choice

Find ISTE upload and look up this presentation for PowerPoint

http://Webtech.cherokee.k12.ga.us/bascomb-es/anywalker/

Reading log – active database – printed in Access – student is to read a book every night and record it into the database.

Classroom Connections

PowerPoint

My Grade 2 Reflections – Teacher, Friends, Favorite Subject, Favorite Event
Templates
PowerPoint Slides
Interactive Games
Math Facts & Sight Word Practice
Jeopardy Games
Group Project Presentations
Transitioning – cloze sentences, answers come in later

Microsoft Publisher
Invitations to Parties
Picture Story Prompts – give them a picture, they write a story
Mother’s Day Cards

Storybook Weaver
Write your own stories and illustrations
Landforms
Space

Inspiration
Webs for Stories
Web for books – students can fill in the characters, setting

Kid Pix
Pictures to go with stories
Diagrams
Compound Words

Type to Learn

KidWorks
Write the stories and Kidworks will read it back to you.

Video Streaming
Download video and have the students respond to the video, make template that they will have to fill out.

MovieMaker
Take lots of pictures and put on website
Does technology increase student writing scores and attitudes?
PowerPoint presentation is on the ISTE website – type in Any Walker
Janis Williamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05309231982410739546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8107793394190668432.post-4245432745423376572007-06-28T20:12:00.000-05:002007-06-28T20:28:43.156-05:00Using Wikis in the Classroom
Presented by Adam Frey - Wikispaces and Vicki Davis - CoolCatTeacher Wiki

It is hard not to be impressed by Vicki's enthusiasm and effective use of wikis. Stone Mountain is a granite outcropping (small mountain), it is the world's largest exposed mass of granite. Many buildings around the states and the world have used granite from Stone Mountain. I took the sky tram to the top of the mountain and a train around the base. On the side of the mountain is the world's largest bas-relief (carving) of three confederates, Stonewall Jackson, Robert E Lee, Jefferson Davis. At dusk a spectacular laser light show is displayed on the face of the mountain.
<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; You sign up for a Yahoo account to get a Flickr account, and then sign up for tripper map.
When you upload your pictures to flickr you have to add geotags. The geotags can be the name of the location or the latitude / longitude coordinates. Quality students that want to go faster than the other students. At the other end are the students that struggle in a face to face school (credit recovery). Different groups of students have different needs.

·<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 7pt; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;"> Online learning can differentiate easily, Students can go over a module again if needed, can go at their pace.

·<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 7pt; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;"> Virtual schools have improved in recent years at retaining students and increasing course completion rates.

·<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 7pt; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;"> Teacher development in student-centered teaching, collaboration, problem-based learning, group work and authentic assessment contribute to improving academic performance. Teaching online, good professional development, teachers learn to be more project-based. If we teach online we will be better in the classroom!

·<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 7pt; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;"> Communicate often, promptly, give feedback, or standard will be that we will respond between 24-48 hours. Automobile to Rubgy, ND, train to Minneapolis, plane to Atlanta. Firstly, it's hot here!
I am registered for the conference and have already seen or met several of the people whose blogs I follow. Was just chatting with Cool Cat Teacher blogger - Vicki Davis! We both agreed that we are happy to be computer geeks.
I am attending the edubloggercon session this afternoon, looking for educational trends, ways to promote blogging in the classroom and how to create a global classroom.
I will publish my notes in another post.Janis Williamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05309231982410739546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8107793394190668432.post-7687152498474961982007-06-20T22:23:00.000-05:002007-06-23T19:50:58.124-05:00Ready, Set, Go to NECC 2007Everything seems to be in place for an exciting conference in Atlanta Georgia. NECC - National Educational Computing Conference.
There are hundreds of sessions available, many sessions on Web 2.0 Tools and Online Learning.
